 About Assistance Plus
Johnna Bowen RN is well known to central Maine families for her significant contributions in the homecare industry. From 1982 to 1985 Johnna worked as a homecare nurse for a local homecare agency in Waterville.
In 1985 she went into partnership with another homecare nurse to establish a Medicare certified agency providing skilled nursing, physical/occupational therapies, social services, and home health aides.
Johnna decided to embark on her own in 1992 to create Johnna Bowen & Associates, a Medicare certified homecare agency for acute, medical needs in central Maine. In 1993, she developed a second company, Assistance Plus responsible for providing personal care with nursing oversight for clients with long term needs. A national homecare firm purchased Johnna Bowen & Associates in 1998 and all of Johnna's efforts went into diversifying and growing Assistance Plus.
To assure quality services, Assistance Plus was licensed by DHHS of Maine as a homecare agency in 1993. Gradually mental health and developmental services were introduced. Initially case management and developmental/behavioral services for children were offered. In 2003, Assistance Plus was granted a mental health license. Today the agency is a full service homecare and mental health agency for children and adults in all counties of Maine except Aroostook.
Johnna takes advantage of the technology available. She has been able to provide complex services to Maine residents from a single office located in Benton. "With today’s IT capabilities, providing quality services to Maine residents is a reality!" Currently she is working on providing on-line and site trainings for all direct care positions offered at Assistance Plus to assure high quality services to our customers.
